The Spartanburg County Detention Facility Training Department trains all officers in accordance with local, State and federal guidelines including but not limited to:

Firearms Legal rights & Responsibilities Defensive Driving
Defensive Tactics Litigation Procedures Taser
Verbal Judo Report Writing Contraband Control
Pepper Spray I.P.C. Concepts NCIC
Ground Defense Suicide Prevention Knife Defense
PR-24 ASP Straight Baton PPCT
NOVA Stun Shield Pepper Ball Deployment Less Than Lethal Weapons
Use Of Force

Other Responsibilities Include:

Enforcement of all policy and procedure Fire evacuation procedures
Instruction of three week pre service class Academy Academic Liaison
Assist other agencies with training

Corporal Leonard Sergeant Tyler Leonard

Sergeant Tyler Leonard, who has been with Spartanburg County Detention Facility since 2000, is in charge of training jail personnel. He is the command support officer for the SCDF S.W.A.T. Team and is also a certified dog handler with the K-9 Unit.
