Spartanburg County Detention Facility

Public Notice: Suspension of Inmate Visitation

Effective March 14, 2010, all inmate visits with family and friends are hereby suspended until Saturday, April 3, 2010. This has become necessary due to the installation of new energy efficient lighting and water saving plumbing fixtures within the jail.

In order to accomplish this as expediently and as safely as possible, it will be necessary to move the female inmates to another facility which does not have adequate space for visitation with members of the public. As a result, it would be unfair and discriminatory to permit visits for male inmates and not provide the same for the females. Thus, all visits are suspended until the work has been completed and the female inmates have been returned to the main facility.

Contractors have indicated that the work will be completed in three (3) weeks. The jail, however, reserves the right to maintain suspension of all visits beyond the April 3, 2010, target date for completion should it become necessary. Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.

While visits with family and friends will be suspended during this time, inmates may still receive visits from their attorneys, and family members may still leave money to be placed in an inmate's canteen account.

Unless an individual inmate's privileges have been suspended or restricted, inmates will still have access to the canteen, telephone, and correspondence through the U.S. Mail.
